With 20 years in the Marine Corps behind him, Dick Rowe started a new career and a new company, Indmar Products Company, Inc. Indmar began as an industrial and marine (thus "Ind" "Mar") distribution company handling diverse products ranging from irrigation engines to boat accessories. At first, manufacturing engines was limited to custom marinizing a few inboards by bolting on off-the-shelf parts. It didn't take long to find that trying to build quality engines was severely restricted by the hit-and-miss quality of major subcomponents from outside suppliers. So, Indmar began designing and manufacturing their own engine parts. And it paid off.

Boat manufacturers quickly learned that Indmar inboards, marinized to their own standards, surpassed the quality of other engines on the market. Indmar inboards proved more reliable and much more durable. Plus, the personalized customer service of a family-run company couldn't be beat. News about a quality product travelled fast. Engine orders began to increase dramatically.

To concentrate exclusively on building top-of-the-line inboard power, the distribution business was phased out. Plans were made to build the most efficient, up-to-date inboard engine manufacturing facility in the world. And those plans became a reality.
